Heather Wright
Age: 25
Disciplines: Mountain XC, road for fun, possibly
cyclocross this fall.
Experience: I started riding in 2001, but
I didn't start racing until 2003.
Occupation: Graduate student
Professional and personal:
I grew up in Milford, Michigan and was looking forward
to leaving downstate after I graduated from high
school. I had been a competitive gymnast for 10
years and due to a chronic back injury and an unsuccessful
surgery, I was forced to explore other sports. I
got my first mountain bike as a high school graduation
gift from my parents and have been biking on some
level ever since. I came up to Michigan Tech in
2001 for my undergraduate degree in Environmental
Engineering. I fell in love with the area and decided
to stay up here year round. My first summer in the
Keweenaw in 2002 I met Caleb
(my fiancé) who introduced me to the Trekkers and
racing. Throughout my education I have studied in
Australia, Colorado, Utah, and Louisiana. Despite
my great experiences in each location, I decided
to stay at Michigan Tech for my graduate degrees.
I completed my Masters in 2007 and am currently
pursuing my PhD with my research focus on wetlands
in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
Racing goals:
Summers have been really busy for me since I began
my graduate studies, and this year I plan to make
racing more of a priority. My main goal is to ride
as much as I can and enjoy the races I am around
for. I am also looking forward to training with
the Redjacket racing team and hope to improve my
overall riding skills.
2008 Schedule:
Rasta Rally

countries and two states.
